Panu Aaltio at SoundTrack_Cologne's Composing for Film Day

Panu Aaltio takes part in SoundTrack_Cologne 23, joining the festival’s Composing for Film Day on Thursday, July 16 at the COMEDIA Theater’s Roter Saal in Cologne. His workshop and discussion runs from 10:30 to 11:30 and centers on Little Siberia, the score that won the 2026 HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award. He stays on into Friday, July 17 as a member of the festival’s European Talent Award jury.

The day brings together four composers. Aaltio shares the program with Nathan Larson (Boys Don’t Cry, Margin Call), Swiss composer Mirjam Skal (Les Courageux), and Christopher Young, this year’s recipient of the festival’s Career Achievement Award, whose more than 160 scores range from Hellraiser to Spider-Man 3.

There is a personal thread to the lineup: Young taught Aaltio during his film scoring studies at USC. Teacher and former student now bookend the same Composing for Film Day, Aaltio’s session opening it in the morning and Young’s onstage career conversation closing it at 16:00.
